About Geoff
I am an internationally awarded concert and film composer with over 25 years of professional experience. My work has been performed internationally and developed in collaboration with leading performers and ensembles.
Since 2013, I have taught composition at university and conservatory level, alongside working with private pupils in one-to-one settings. My teaching combines professional experience with a rigorous, practical focus on musical craft, structure and clarity across both concert and screen contexts.

My teaching is grounded in principles rather than fixed methods. Instead of promoting a particular stylistic approach, we focus on the underlying structures of musical craft: form, harmony, texture, pacing and expressive clarity.
Lessons are shaped around the student’s level and goals. A typical session may include close listening and analysis, discussion of compositional problems, practical writing exercises and detailed feedback on works in progress. The emphasis is on strengthening technique and sharpening musical thinking.
In film scoring, students gain graded insight into the principles that allow music and picture to blend convincingly — narrative timing, emotional pacing and orchestration for screen. Concert composition requires a more open-ended approach, with attention to long-range structure and material development.
What sets my teaching apart is professional experience across both concert and film contexts, and a focus on clarity of craft rather than formula. Lessons are best suited to motivated intermediate-to-advanced students, conservatoire applicants, developing composers and serious adult learners.
