About Melanie
I am Melanie Tomlinson, an experienced interior designer and the founder of MTD. I graduated in Interior Design from the International School of Color and Design (ISCD) and also hold a TAFE Adv Diploma in Architectural Drafting and Technology.
Throughout my career, I have worked across the commercial, hospitality, and residential sectors, gaining extensive experience in concept development, space planning, materials and finishes, documentation, presentations, and project delivery. Since 2009, I have operated an active interior architecture and design studio in both Australia and the United Kingdom.
I would now like to share the practical knowledge and industry experience I have gained throughout my career. I understand that design projects and assignments can sometimes feel overwhelming, particularly when transforming an initial idea into a clear, resolved, and professionally presented concept.
My goal as a tutor is to provide supportive, honest, and constructive guidance that helps students strengthen their ideas, develop confidence in their decisions, and bridge the gap between design theory and real-world practice. I find it genuinely rewarding to help emerging designers recognize their strengths and develop their own individual design voice.

My online interior design lessons are tailored to your individual experience, goals and current areas of study.
I can assist beginners, interior design students and emerging designers with projects or assignments, offering practical guidance, constructive feedback and industry insight. Whether you need help developing an initial concept, refining a floor plan, selecting finishes and materials, creating mood boards, improving presentation drawings or bringing an entire project together, each lesson will focus on the areas where you need the most support.
Lessons typically run for one to three hours, depending on the complexity of your project and the level of guidance required.
As a practising interior designer, I can help you approach your work with greater clarity and confidence while developing practical skills that extend beyond the classroom. My role is to guide your thinking, strengthen your design decisions and help you communicate your ideas professionally while ensuring the final work remains authentically your own.
