About Xzen Hung

I am an Interior Designer and Architectural Designer with a strong academic and professional background across interior design, interior architecture and architecture.

My academic journey has been quite unique. I hold Bachelor’s degrees in Interior Design and Interior Architecture, a Master’s degree in Interior Design, as well as a RIBA Part 2 Master’s degree in Architecture. All of my qualifications were completed in the UK, giving me a broad understanding of design from the scale of materials and interior spaces through to architecture and the wider built environment.

Before completing my second Master’s degree in the UK, I worked as an Interior Design Tutor at university level in Malaysia. Teaching was something I genuinely enjoyed, particularly working closely with students, discussing their ideas and helping them discover their own design direction.

Professionally, I have worked within two leading UK architectural practices and have been involved in a number of recognised projects. I am currently working within an established interior design and architectural practice, with experience spanning interior design, architectural assistance, technical design, design development, materials and finishes, and project delivery.

What I love most about design is thinking differently. I am naturally creative and enjoy looking beyond the obvious solution. I like asking “why?”, challenging an idea and exploring how it could become stronger, more meaningful or sometimes completely unexpected.

I have a particular passion for graphics, portfolio design and visual storytelling. For me, designing a great space is only part of the process — being able to communicate the thinking behind it through drawings, diagrams, layouts and presentations is equally important.

I am also passionate about materials, sustainability and the relationship between people and the built environment. I enjoy considering not only how something looks, but how materials perform, where they come from, how people experience them and the impact our design decisions can have on the environment.

Having studied, taught and worked across different cultural and professional environments has shaped the way I approach design. I don’t believe good design comes from simply following a particular style or being told what the answer should be. I believe it comes from curiosity, experimentation, critical thinking and understanding the people we are designing for.

As a tutor, I want to share both my academic knowledge and professional experience while encouraging you to develop your own identity as a designer. Whether you need another perspective on a project, help developing an idea, guidance with technical work, or support turning your portfolio into something you’re proud to present, I’m here to help you take it further.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to your project and the areas where you need the most support. I don’t believe there is one “correct” way to design. Instead, I help you explore ideas, challenge your thinking and develop a project with clear reasoning behind each decision.

I have experience teaching interior design at university level in Malaysia, alongside professional experience in established UK practices across interior design, technical design and architectural assistance. This allows me to bring both academic and real-world industry experience to my tutorials.

I enjoy discussing ideas, asking why, exploring alternatives and helping students see new possibilities.

If you’re stuck with a concept, we can consider how the space, users, materials, function and environment might shape your design.

Graphics, Portfolio & Storytelling

I’m particularly passionate about graphic communication and portfolio design. I can help you develop considered layouts, diagrams, visual hierarchy and graphics, while building a clear story from your initial research and concept to the final design.

Materials, People & Sustainability

I’m also interested in sustainability and the relationship between materials, buildings and people. We can consider a material’s origin, performance, environmental impact, durability, maintenance and contribution to a space’s atmosphere.

My Teaching Style

My lessons are friendly, open and collaborative. You don’t need a perfect project or a fully formed plan.

Bring your sketches, drawings, portfolio, university brief, material ideas or a design problem, and we can work through it together.

I won’t design your project for you. Instead, I’ll ask questions, offer new perspectives and help you understand why you’re making each design decision.

My aim is for you to leave each tutorial with a stronger project and new ways of thinking to carry into your future designs.
