About Paul
My approach to teaching is informed by the practical nature of the Graphic Design and Multimedia course, I aim to allow creative expression within the limits of practical application in the Graphic Design industry in South Africa and the world at large. Every class activity, ICE task or personal project experienced by the learners must practically assist them to better develop their Design portfolio in order to better their chances of becoming marketable and employable. My approach therefore is focused on developing Design abilities to match or surpass industry standards at the level of each particular student. Emphasis is laid particularly on the point that each student is competent in their own style and inborn abilities and each one must therefore learn how to unleash their potential to meet, satisfy, thrive and remain competitively sustainable in the design environment they aim to find themselves in. The goal is that each individual student must benefit bit by bit from attending the class and being actively engaged in the session so that eventually they realize the goal they have set for themselves. The strategy is therefore that every day is an opportunity to build and grow their boldness in believing in their own creative ability and therefore able to express it in its clearest form. Only the originator or creator of an idea can truly express its significance, others may just copy but not really understand its true worth! Just as God created man, in His image would know why best!

I am a Graphics and Multimedia lecturer and I have a passion to transfer current design knowledge, design technology skills as well as design industry input to learners in an interactive, interesting and engaging way. Learning Graphics and Multimedia can be and should be fun and seriously well thought out at the same time to produce ‘the good stuff’ that sells at a premium! As a practicing Graphics and Multimedia Designer, the matter of conceptualization of ideas that relate consumers to products and establish a direct emotional connection bridging the two is of utmost importance. Concept is king in the design industry. Creative design work is well thought out communication! Design creatives are thinkers! Graphic designers are solution providers. Graphic design is a practical discipline that yields physical design product solutions and I challenge learners to be the drivers of their learning experience. They can feel free to take the lead role in lectures and chart the way forward in terms of finding design solutions and giving feedback on learned knowledge. So, why is the rabbit not afraid of the lion? Because he is wiser! Courage is not the absence of fear, but the mastery of it.
