About Michael

I’ve spent the past 8 years teaching guitar to school and college students, and it’s been an incredible experience helping young musicians tap into their creativity and build lifelong skills. I believe that learning guitar should be a balance between structure and freedom. Structure comes from learning the foundational elements—proper hand technique, rhythm, note reading, chord progressions, and musical form. Freedom comes from encouraging students to explore their own tastes and ideas through improvisation, songwriting, or arranging. Every lesson I give is customized to reflect the student’s goals, whether they want to perform on stage, jam with friends, or compose original music. One of the proudest moments in my teaching journey was helping a group of students organize and perform a concert at their school—an experience that challenged and inspired them in new ways. I also integrate performance coaching into my teaching, helping students manage nerves and express themselves with clarity and feeling. I take pride in cultivating a supportive, positive space where students are not afraid to take creative risks or make mistakes. My ultimate goal is to help each student become not just a skilled guitarist, but a confident, expressive, and thoughtful musician.

About the lesson

I teach guitar in a way that blends structure with curiosity, discipline with exploration, and technique with heart. We begin with core skills: proper hand form, strumming accuracy, picking control, rhythm awareness. But what makes this method effective is that we immediately tie those skills to music that’s emotionally and stylistically relevant to you. If you’re passionate about folk, we’ll build fingerpicking patterns early. If you’re drawn to blues or alt-rock, we’ll explore expressive bends, slides, and tone control.

I explain each concept in a simple, relatable way, using your feedback to adjust the lesson flow as we go. I don’t just demonstrate what to play—I give you tools to understand and internalize it. That includes visual tools like fretboard diagrams, aural tools like ear-training apps or harmony games, and kinesthetic tools like repetition loops and improvisation exercises. We also break down real-world case studies—how professional players practice, how they prep for sessions, how small changes in gear or technique can transform their sound. I teach you not just the music but the thinking and habits behind it. We work on creative expression through improvisation and composition, build performance confidence, and prepare you for real musical interactions whether that's jamming, performing solo, or collaborating. The heart of this method is simple: I help you become the kind of guitarist who doesn’t just replicate music but truly communicates through it.
