About Sasha
Filmmaker and video editor, based in Bradford, trained at the best film school in Ukraine (Kyiv Karpenko-Kary film and television university). I cut professionally for Rainbow Trout Films and teach screen performance at IPM Acting Academy in Leeds. Teaching is not a sideline for me, it is something I already do weekly.

Every lesson is built around your project. There is no fixed syllabus. The first session is about what you want to make, what you have already watched, and where you are stuck. From there I tailor the work to you.
We use references, and we take them apart. Not "watch this, it is good", but stopping on a cut, playing it again, and working out why it sits exactly there and not four frames later. Once you can do that with someone else's film, you can do it with your own.
I also teach the things tutorials leave out, because they come from doing the job rather than explaining it. Music first or music after, and what changes in the edit depending which way round you work. Why an audience likes a cut without being able to tell you why.
And then there is the pre-game: everything that happens before the timeline. What to ask a client or a videographer, and when, before the shoot and after it. How to write the message that saves you three rounds of revisions. How to get references out of a client who says they will know it when they see it, and what to offer when they have no answer at all, because you should always have something ready. This is why my edits come back with very few notes. Not luck, not taste. Most of the work was done before I imported anything.
There is homework. Something to cut between lessons, so the next session starts with your work on the screen instead of an empty timeline.
Lessons are online or in person. You need a computer that runs Premiere Pro and footage you care about. If you have no footage, we will find you some.
