About Theresa

I have been a qualified social worker for nine years, with extensive experience across child protection practice and professional development. Alongside my statutory practice, I am a qualified systemic social worker and bring a strong theoretical grounding and practical understanding of systemic approaches to my teaching. This enables me to support learners to think relationally, critically, and contextually, helping them to understand not just what they are doing in practice, but why it matters and how change occurs within families, organisations, and wider systems.

For the past three years, I have taken a lead role in social work development and best practice, supporting learning at both individual and team levels. This role has strengthened my ability to translate theory into meaningful, real-world application, particularly within complex child protection and court-based work. My approach emphasises ethical decision-making, reflective practice, and professional confidence, supporting social workers to bridge the gap between academic learning and frontline practice.

I am also an experienced Practice Assessor in Social Work, with a strong understanding of assessment frameworks, professional standards, and evidencing capability in practice. Through this role, I have supported students and practitioners to demonstrate their learning clearly and confidently, helping them to link theory, practice, and reflection in a way that meets assessment requirements while remaining authentic to their professional values. I am skilled at providing constructive, clear feedback and supporting learners through areas of challenge, enabling growth rather than simply focusing on performance.

As a Practice Educator in Social Work, I have supported many students and practitioners through placements, assessments, and professional development journeys. I create a supportive, relational learning environment where curiosity, reflection, and critical thinking are encouraged. Whether you are a student, newly qualified social worker, or an experienced practitioner, I offer tailored support that builds on your strengths, develops your confidence, and supports you to grow as a thoughtful, reflective, and capable social worker.

I am also a qualified Practice Assessor, specifically assessing and supporting experienced social workers who are undertaking training to become Practice Educators. In this role, I assess capability against the relevant professional standards, support the development of educator skills, and provide clear, constructive feedback to evidence readiness for supervising and assessing students. This experience gives me a strong understanding of what high-quality practice education looks like, as well as the pressures and expectations placed on those in educator roles. It enables me to support learners not only to meet assessment requirements, but to grow into reflective, confident, and ethically grounded practice educators themselves.

A typical lesson with me doesn’t feel like a lecture — it feels like a guided conversation. We might start with a real practice scenario, perhaps a complex child protection case or an anonymised court extract, and I’ll ask, “What’s jumping out at you here?” From there, we unpack it together. We pause, reflect, challenge assumptions, and link theory back to what actually happens in practice. Expect moments of curiosity, gentle challenge, and reassurance — with space to get things wrong safely and learn from it. I often use case-mapping, reflective questions, and systemic prompts to help you see the bigger picture, while also grounding everything in social work values and statutory expectations. Sessions are lively, supportive, and focused on helping you feel more confident and clear in your thinking.

My learning style is relational, reflective, and strengths-based. I believe people learn best when they feel safe, respected, and genuinely understood. I adapt sessions to how you learn — whether you prefer talking things through, breaking work into manageable chunks, using visual mapping, or applying learning directly to assignments, reports, or court statements. I blend theory with real-world practice, always encouraging critical thinking rather than “right answers.” The aim is not just to pass or get through placement, but to grow into a confident, reflective practitioner who trusts their professional judgement.

I have been a Practice Educator for six years, I have successfully supported all of my social work students and social workers through their assessments and placements. I specialise in models of learning and reflection that are adaptable and successful for learning. Significant experience in proofreading to support students and social workers. I support a wide range of needs and learning so let's get started!
