About Sergio
I teach because I want to pay forward the gift of education that my parents gave to me.
Outside of my formal tutoring experience, I also volunteer at The Preuss School UC San Diego, where I've been pivotal in establishing and expanding a high school Science Olympiad team, growing the coaching staff and supporting a diverse student body, many of whom are from first-generation, low-income backgrounds. Whether it’s through Saturday schools, summer programs, or regular class sessions, my teaching philosophy is always centered on making education accessible and engaging for all.

After earning straight A's in the organic chemistry sequence at UC San Diego (CHEM 40A-C including the honors versions of organic chemistry II and III), I served as a supplemental instruction leader for a quarter. In this role, I wrote original problems to challenge my groups of up to 20 students. I have experience working with individuals and large groups, both in-person and online!
My teaching approach focuses on meeting students where they're at and building up from fundamentals rather than relying on rote memorization. I work with each student to identify knowledge gaps and develop personalized study strategies, particularly emphasizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for high school and college success. Having recently navigated the pre-medical journey myself, I understand the challenges students face and can provide targeted guidance not just for classes, but for the overall medical school application process.
