About Martha
As an incoming English literature student at degree level, I am well versed in the skills required to succeed in the subject. I achieved 3 A* grades at A-level, including receiving a commendation from OCR for achieving full marks in English Literature A-level, demonstrating both my academic rigour and my detailed understanding of the assessment criteria required to excel. I understand that English is a subject that requires the development of interconnected skills - from grasping comprehension and identifying literary techniques, developing in-depth analysis, to mastering structuring essays and creative pieces. I therefore take a personalised approach to meeting students wherever they are on their learning journey, as I believe each skill is developed progressively, learning to build on a strong foundation. I am patient, kind and determined, passionate about English, and my aim is not just to improve students' skills, but also build their confidence in the subject overall!

My teaching is personalised, structured, and progressive. I begin by identifying a student's current strengths and weaknesses, including reviewing relevant classwork or previous essays where possible. I aim to begin with foundational understanding of concepts where necessary, such as identifying and utilising literary techniques, before progressing to examine them in context using real-life examples. Finally, I believe true understanding stems from implementation, so practical application is necessary to help students develop their own skills while also providing a measure of progress. I then display a variety of model answers to give an insight into high-level application to display what efficacy looks like in real life.
