About Peter Pal

I am a qualified and enthusiastic teacher with an MA in Hungarian Language and Literature and a BA in Religious Studies. I am specialised in 20th century and contemporary Hungarian Literature but I am also interested in history, art, intercultural dialogue, philosophy and psychology. I have been teaching the Hungarian Literature (Language A) IB Diploma Programme at several international schools in London and Surrey. For over 10 years I have also worked as a professional translator. I did the literary translation of one of Britain’s leading historical fiction authors, Norah Lofts’ How Far to Bethlehem?, a novel that I translated from English into Hungarian, published in Budapest, 2008.) I also am the author of several literary essays on modern Hungarian literature published in prominent literary journals, on the works of Janos Pilinszky, Laszlo Krasznahorkai, Zsuzsa Beney, Imre Kertesz, Peter Esterhazy. As an IB Educator, I have experience in supervising Extended Essays, including Existentialism in Miklos Meszoly’s prose. I have been teaching Hungarian as a foreign language for English-speaking learners in the past 4 years. My students love my friendly, tailor-made approach to their different learning styles.
