About Nicia

At her very core, Nicia is a creator. Based in Ontario, Canada, with a deep interest in performance, contemporary visual art, and cognitive psychology, she aims to use choreographic work to blur the lines between the arts and sciences. Her formal dance training began at the Conception Dance Theatre, Grenada, where she became exposed to several years of ballet and Caribbean cultural dance instruction. Her time there afforded her the opportunity to hone her skills under several notable choreographers. Inspired to explore further studies in dance, she felt inclined to attend York University in pursuit of an Honours BFA in Dance Choreography and (Min) Psychology. Training under the program's esteemed dance educators and practitioners has prepared her for the rigors of the broader dance world. She now aims to guide and lead elevating dance classes by empowering students' joy for dance.

About the lesson

Ballet: I use a mix of RAD and Cecchetti ballet techniques. A full class will often include barre, centre, and cross-floor work (as best as we can in the spaces we have). Absolute beginner and intermediate levels are happily welcomed.

Choreography: Lessons will include improvisation and process development work to best suit your needs.

Contemporary: All levels are welcome! We will typically do centre exercises and learn a choreographic phrase to work on performance skills, choreographic memory, timing, and artistry.
