About Ṱalelani
Hello and welcome! My name is Talelani Mphohoni, and I am a dedicated and passionate language educator with a strong interest in multilingual education and learner-centered teaching. I take pride in creating a professional, respectful, and supportive learning environment where every student feels confident to participate and grow. I have experience teaching and supporting learners in English and African languages, and my approach is informed by both classroom practice and academic training. I understand the challenges that many learners face, especially when learning in a language that is not their home language, and I use clear explanations, practical examples, and patience to support each learner effectively. As a teacher, I am well-prepared, organized, and committed to high standards. I plan my lessons carefully, communicate expectations clearly, and provide constructive feedback to help students improve. I value discipline balanced with encouragement, and I believe that confidence is built through understanding and consistent support. I am fluent in English and Tshivenda, with working knowledge of Xitsonga and Sepedi, which allows me to assist learners from diverse linguistic backgrounds. My teaching methodology is learner-centred, inclusive, and grounded in communicative and sociocultural approaches to learning. I believe that language is best acquired through meaningful interaction, critical engagement, and real-life application. I integrate learners’ linguistic and cultural backgrounds into my lessons to make learning relevant and empowering.
What makes me unique as a teacher is my strong awareness of multilingualism and language diversity. I do not view learners’ home languages as a barrier, but as a valuable resource for learning. I consciously use translanguaging strategies to support comprehension, build confidence, and bridge new concepts with learners’ existing knowledge. I also emphasise critical thinking, creativity, and learner participation rather than rote learning.
