About Miles

I`m Miles, a postgraduate History student based in Cambridgeshire. My primary research interests are in interwar European history, post-1945 Middle Eastern history and the history of political ideology.

I am eager to teach because I have a tireless passion for learning and for seeing people flourish and develop their personal interests. I am especially interested in working with students, both adults, and children, who are themselves from marginalised backgrounds. During my time at university, I predominantly focused on supporting fellow students who came to higher education without qualifications such as A-Levels and therefore may have more with formal academia.

I believe passionately in encouraging students to pursue those subjects that inspire them most, challenging and critically assessing their course material and empowering students to have confidence in their own arguments and understanding.

About the lesson

Hi there,

I`m looking to tutor A Level students in Politics.

Throughout my time at university, I have been involved in a variety of initiatives that have involved supporting other students by providing academic guidance for them, as well as offering private tuition to fellow undergraduates. A significant portion of my degree focused on political history and history of ideology, topics which greatly appeal to me.

As a tutor, I encourage students to direct the course of the work we undertake together. This involves maintain communication between lessons and students deciding which topics or skills we might cover during a session.

Additionally, I like to focus heavily on assessment structure, analysis of assessment questions, and planning exam answers. An example of this would be planning an essay/exam question between each session and comparing them during it.

My lessons are typically online via Google Meet for 1 hour, though you can book for longer. If you are local to Ely in Cambridgeshire, I'd also be happy to teach in person, COVID concerns permitting.
