About Stephen

My philosophy of education has evolved over many years of teaching experience. As I reflect on my beliefs regarding teaching and learning,I have always stuck to three core beliefs:
1. to promote positive learning
2. to spark learner enthusiasm for learning
3. and to provide a strong foundation for a student's future

I also provide a strong foundation for the future by promoting writing. I believe that learning to write well is the foundation for education. In order to write essays or other forms of writing ,students must read, research and question . These skills will provide students with tools to search out information in a concrete and productive manner.

Finally, I stress speaking skills and manners in the classroom. I ask students to talk to each other during a lesson about the topic. I utilize rubrics for presentations that stress interpersonal skills that later in life will be necessary in the job market. Eye contact, manners, active listening are all skills needed for success.

About the lesson

I have 25 years of teaching in middle school, high school and college. I have been tutoring for 25 years as well. I specialize in history and English with a focus on writing skills. I can assist in almost any area however math is not a strength.
