About Isabelle

Hello I’m Isabelle. I am a PhD student at the University of St Andrews. In 2019, I was a Visiting Scholar at Yale University. As a committed scholar and academic, I most enjoy sharing my love for visual culture with other enthusiastic Art Historians. I completed my BA at the University of St Andrews, where I achieved a first-class degree and was awarded the O. E. Saunders Prize given to the most outstanding student in Art History. My dissertation won the Long Dissertation Prize in the subject, achieving the highest grade in my cohort; on the recommendation of my tutors, it was put forward for the national Association of Art Historians Dissertation Prize. I then went on to do an MA at the Courtauld Institute of Art, specialising in British Modernism. Whilst maintaining a strong academic trajectory, I gained relevant professional experience in the field, completing internships at Buckingham Palace, Rosebery’s Auctioneers, Bonhams and ARCADE contemporary art gallery. Based on these experiences, I am able to give students specific careers advice and facilitate internship opportunities through contact with these institutions.

About the lesson

I have tutored for five years working with education concierge A&J Education, specialising in GCSE, A-Level, undergraduate and postgraduate level Art History tutoring. I have a vast knowledge of both Western and Non-Western art histories, covering a period from 1280 – present day. At university, the dissertation component of the undergraduate and postgraduate degree is often the most challenging task for students. Writing a thesis right now during the COVID-19 pandemic is even more stressful, especially without access to our professors and library resources. During this time, I am offering online tutoring sessions and essay editing to those who are drafting their final year dissertations this summer. Having won the Long-Dissertation Prize for the most outstanding piece of original research at St Andrews, I am able to help students with primary archival research, teaching them how to use the resources at archives as this skill, although expected from their course supervisors, is not explicitly taught. I further help the students with structuring, planning and editing their thesis.
