About Tammy-Lee
I am Tammy-Lee Bastian. I completed my Bachelors Degree in Education in 2018, at the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town South Africa. My specializations are Language Education and Life Orientation.
Following the completion of my degree, I moved to Johannesburg in 2019, where I had the privilege of working as an Afrikaans FAL teacher.
In February 2019, I started my teaching career at Jacaranda Academy in Edenglen, Johannesburg, where I worked as an Intermediate and Senior Phase Afrikaans FAL and Grade 5 Mathematics teacher.
Thereafter, I had the privilege of working as an Intermediate Phase Afrikaans FAL and Grade 5 Creative Arts teacher at Pinnacle College Founders Hill, in Modderfontein, a school owned by the ADvTECH Group, one of the biggest providers of private education in South Africa.
Working at the ADvTECH Group, I have gained a sound understanding of the implementation of the CAPS curriculum in the classroom. Additionally, I also acquired additional knowledge and skills to implement remote teaching and assessing, particularly via the Microsoft Teams platform.

I take a learner-centered pedagogical approach as I always strive to deduce what my students already know, in order for me to use their existing knowledge and learning experiences to further scaffold the knowledge and skills they require in an individualized manner that suits the needs of each learner, as each learner learns and processes information differently.
Although I specialize in Senior Phase (Grade 7-9) teaching. I also have experience in Intermediate Phase (Grade 4-6) teaching. Thus, my lessons are aimed at students in Grade 4-9.
Also note, I am fully bilingual, as I possess excellent communicative and written skills in both Afrikaans and English. This has enabled me to confidently teach in both languages, at home- and first additional language level.
A typical lesson with me involves explaining a concept or construct in a clear and concise manner, and exposing students to various learning resources, such as articles, videos and activities based on the construct they are struggling with and giving them an activity to assess whether they have comprehended the construct.
