About Benita

I am the founder of Joy Music School, Kadugodi Bangalore. I am a certified professional music teacher from Trinity College London with over 12 years of experience in the music industry. I have 7 years of online and offline teaching experience for all age groups. I started learning when I was 13 years old. I learned from Elshaddai Music Academy in Chennai (Trinity College London), after which I trained myself to play songs on my own in different styles. I am basically a software professional. I left my job a few years back to pursue my passion, which is to teach all music lovers to play music. I am happy to teach others to play songs and to make music. I also train students to appear for Trinity music exams. I have trained nearly 300 students in 7 years. My students are from the US, Canada, India, Australia, Singapore, the Middle East, UK, etc.

About the lesson

I provide a music training program for all those who want to learn professionally, as well as a separate simple course for those who want to learn quickly as a hobby. I teach students to read, write, and play songs from music sheets and also to play songs on their own in any style. My teaching methodology is very simple yet effective; even kids find it easy to understand. I teach using PowerPoint presentations. Course details: ----> I teach using PowerPoint presentations (lesson-wise). Each lesson includes music theory, sheet music, sight reading, ear training, scales and chords exercises, chord progression, left-hand patterns, arpeggios, and rhythm exercises. -----> I give practical examples with songs for each and every new concept. I provide activities, exercises, and homework for every concept so that students understand the concept very well and are able to play the same. I also provide videos of all lessons so that students can refer and do their homework with ease. -----> After 5 days of 1-hour sessions each, students will start to play (instruments) with both hands. By the end of the course, students will be able to read music sheets, play from music sheets, write/play any music composition on their own, and play any song on their own in any style. Style of work: -----> I teach both online/in-person classes. My classes include both one-on-one/customized group lessons. -----> Online classes will be either through Google Meet, Skype, or Zoom. Performance: I also conduct small competitions where all students are asked to perform. The best performer gets a surprise gift to encourage and motivate the students to play in front of an audience.

Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?
I am a piano tutor. I developed an interest in this field when I was 10 years old while listening to songs by Don Moen. I used to listen to a lot of albums. My favorites are "I will sing" by Don Moen, and "This is our god" by Hillsongs.
What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?
I struggled a lot while I was learning music. I didn't get a proper teacher to guide me. So I decided that I should teach my students all that I know and guide them in the right direction to pursue their passion.
How does your work help society?
Music is something that is very well known for stress relief. Music takes people out of the stressful world and helps them calm themselves and perform better in their social and personal life.
If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?
Emily Bear and Louis Banks are my role models. I love the way they have emerged thus far.
Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.
Composing and listening to music.
Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?
I was a software professional but I quit my job to pursue my passion which is teaching music to all those who are passionate about music. It's been 5 years since I have been in this field. I have got a lot of good reviews from almost all my students. As this is my passion I don't feel any stress while doing this job. I am very happy and love teaching my students.
