I’m a double major in Performance and Composition from Selkirk College's Contemporary Music Program and current member of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, with years of classical experience under my belt. Music is my passion, and I’m here to share that excitement with you! Whether you’re just starting or ready to level up your skills, I’ll be with you every step of the way—guiding you with patience, encouragement, and a personalized touch. SINGING: As a vocal coach, I believe in blending old and new techniques. My teaching style is versatile, focusing on building strong vocal foundations while encouraging artistic freedom. Every student is unique, and I tailor each lesson to their voice, style, and goals. I emphasize proper vocal technique, including breath control and range development while also ensuring wide exploration of relevant musical knowledge. Teaching Methodology and Techniques. LEVELS: Basic to intermediate/ RCM level 1-6. I use a combination of classical (bel canto) and somatic singing techniques to ensure versatility in the desired choice we decide to dive into! Typical Lesson Plan: Warm-up (10-15 minutes): Focusing on breathing, vocal flexibility, and range extension. These are crucial for a powerful voice, helping with tone, endurance, and clarity. Technique (15-20 minutes): Addressing specific vocal exercises, focusing on resonance, power, agility, phrasing, dynamics, and tonal quality, bringing their songs to life. Repertoire/Performance (15-20 minutes): Working on a song or piece, applying the techniques discussed, and providing constructive feedback. Cooldown and Reflection (5 minutes): We’ll finish by reviewing the lesson, discussing progress, and setting goals for next time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- COMPOSITION: RCM theory levels 1-10/ Basic to advanced compositional concepts. Whether it is for an RCM theory examination or just simply wanting to make your song more appealing, I believe a strong grasp of theory is essential for effective musical expression; I help students to apply the aforementioned composition and analysis techniques while encouraging their own unique artistic development. Teaching Methodology and Techniques. Core Concepts: We start with basics like scales, intervals, and harmony, progressing to advanced topics like counterpoint and orchestration. Practical Application: Students apply theory through composition exercises and analysis of existing works. Creativity: I encourage experimentation with harmony, melody, and rhythm, teaching students to break the rules creatively.
