Cello

Hello! I'm a recent Master's grad from Eastman, and happy to share the joy of music with anyone willing to learn! I believe that the body is the true instrument, the cello is simply an extension.

About Kristina

I've been teaching one or two students a semester for the past 10 years, and have taught all ages and all skill levels from beginner adults, to undergraduate collegiate-level players.

I graduated recently from the Eastman School of Music with my Master's degree in cello performance and literature. I'm currently a professional chamber musician with the Mount Vernon Virtuosi, and the Trio Thônmái. I frequently guest artist with groups such as the Boston Early Music Festival, Philharmonie Austin, and New Carolina Sinfonia. For the past four years I've been the primary cello faculty of the O'Connor string method camp in Charlotte NC.

Past/Current Teachers and Mentors:

Joseph Johnson - MM Professor
Amit Peled - Current Mentor
Steuart Pincombe - Baroque Mentor
Christel Thielmann - MM Baroque Teacher
Emanuel Gruber - BM Professor
Marjory Hwang - Chamber Music Professor
Ariel Barnes - Cello Mentor

About the lesson

I'll meet you where you're at, and always will help you try to find the next best thing to elevate your playing and encourage your imagination and love for music. I like to work on technique through repertoire, and love it when students bring pieces that excite them!
I have an emphasis in baroque music/history, with extensive experience with baroque cello, and viola da gamba. I'm primarily a chamber musician and value collaboration.

I truly believe that my lessons are for anyone who desires to learn! (bonus: If I don't know the answer to your question, I will always do my homework and find out!)

Kristi is a highly passionate and talented musician and educator at the very highest level. I have played with and watched her teach many times, and she always brings a depth of knowledge and enthusiasm that is very rare. She excels at inspiring others by sharing her breadth of musical knowledge and understanding of how to express oneself through musical ideas. She is the perfect teacher to make anyone fall in love with making music, and with the cello!

Three words to describe Kristina as a teacher: bright, uplifting, and informed!!! Kristi's technical and musical teaching has helped shape me into a better cellist today. Her background in baroque/early makes learning pieces such as the Bach cello suites very insightful. Highly recommend taking lessons from Kristina!
