About Sarah

Hello everyone! I love Mandarin, and I have been speaking, reading, and writing Mandarin for 15+ years. I love it so much, I lived and worked in China for 4 years as a Peace Corps volunteer. After my post, I decided to get a Master's degree in Chinese Studies. Then, I went back to China as an English Language Fellow. I found that my true calling was to teach Mandarin, so I went back to school and got a second Master's degree in Secondary Education with an endorsement in teaching Mandarin. I also hold a Professional Educator License in the state of Illinois. I hope you can come learn Mandarin with me! I also teach English, reading, and test prep.

About the lesson

A typical lesson with me would start with our day's goals and expectations. I would have a set syllabus I would work with, but I also cater my lessons to individual needs. I teach toward the Beijing dialect of Mandarin, considered the "standard" in Mainland China. We would do activities and play games throughout the lesson, and then have a review portion. These lessons would be for students studying for the HSK, business Chinese, studying for school, traveling, or have a general passion to learn Mandarin. I teach Mandarin 1 to Mandarin 4, including honors and AP level Mandarin. That is, HSK 1 - 5 out of the old scoring system.
