About Marty
I believe that the most important person in a student-teacher relationship is the student, that is who it's all about. Some of my success stories are "Wendy", "Nilly", "Lydia" and "Vitoneil", all of whom were good students who needed something more. I introduced material from AP classes, university courses, and the CFA Academy. They now tell me that their courses at the next level are easy, and they are excelling.
"Rae" was at the other end of the spectrum. She said she was too stupid to get a mark over 50% in any class. I asked her to take my Economics class - she wound up with a solid B in the high seventies, and I hope that she looks at herself differently.
"Jarvis", is a lateral thinker who wants to be a historian. He took economics and accounting because his father forced him to. I was able to make the topics interesting enough for him that he received a mark in the eighties, much higher than the sixties that he had been receiving. He later told me that the work we did to help him organize his thoughts. He credits this, in part, with a vastly improved IELTs score that was high enough for him to get into a western university. I believe that so long as a student is willing to apply him or herself, I can help them to succeed.

I tailor my lessons to each individual student.
First, we jointly agree on a goal that is both ambitious and achievable.
Second, I review the program that the student is enrolled in to determine how they are being assessed.
Third, I diagnosis areas of weakness.
After explaining the relevant concepts, I assign supplementary work so that the student can practice their new knowledge.
Where possible, I like to be a week or two ahead of the course the student is studying, so students can "front load". If need be, practice tests are given.
