About Richard

I am a teacher but also a very experienced performer both in bands and solo, so my main focus is to take people from beginner to performer level as soon as possible. I have a long history teaching covers of well-known material as well as writing, so if you have an interest in creating your own, original compositions, then my lessons could be a perfect fit. The reason that I teach is because I have been very lucky over the years to have some amazing musical mentors and teachers, and at a certain point, I began to understand how amazing it can be to work alongside learners as you watch their ability and confidence grow through to writing, performing and even recording. Because I feel so lucky to have had such inspirational teachers, I also feel a responsibility to give back and create that cycle of teaching, learning and inspiring that I’ve had the great fortune to be a part of most of my life.

About the lesson

My main aim is to create a personalised learning experience based on the style and content that interests you. I have lots of experience teaching all ages, having worked privately as well as in both formal and informal education settings. I play for myself every day because it’s what I love to do, and I believe that my approach can help to inspire people to look at music and learning in a different, more dynamic and passionate way. I teach acoustic and electric guitar as well as ukulele, and my methods lean towards pop and rock music using TAB, chord boxes, song sheets and backing tracks for you to play along to. My lessons tend to be half an hour long, although I will consider 20 or 45 minutes depending on level and availability of practice time for you, the learner.

Perfect! My lesson was amazing. Richard was available at short notice and we got stuck straight in with exactly what I needed to pick up my ukulele playing again. He was flexible in switching from face-to-face to online when my circumstances changed. We went right back to basics and he set me up with a song to practice. I would highly recommend Richard. He is patient, encouraging and has a step-by-step approach which i really appreciate. Thank you Richard :)

I decided to fulfill a lifelong ambition of learning the guitar a few years ago. I was completely green, but Frenchie started me off at a pace i could follow and didnt feel overwhelmed. I would reccomened him as a tutor to anyone wanting to learn, he is patient, and loves all genres of music. He adapted online music groups during Covid restrictions to keep everyone going with progress. Hes a very talented songwriter for anyone wanting to learn that side of things and all in all hes just a fantastic guy. If anyone was to have an interest in learning, he would the first person id mention.
