About Taryn
I have 13 years of experience teaching guitar and hold a Doctorate in Guitar Performance and Music Education. My professional expertise spans classical, jazz, contemporary, and improvisational guitar techniques, along with pedagogical strategies for diverse learners.
I focus on individualised teaching, combining technical exercises, creative repertoire, improvisation, and performance skills. I create a supportive environment where students are encouraged to explore, experiment, and express themselves musically while achieving measurable technical progress.
Outside teaching, I perform, compose, and attend masterclasses, continually refining my approach and knowledge. I am deeply passionate about guiding students to unlock their musical voice, achieve technical excellence, and gain confidence as performers. Helping learners transform their ideas into expressive music is the most rewarding aspect of my work.

Guitar lessons with me are designed to build technical skill, musicality, and creative confidence. Each student begins with a detailed assessment of finger positioning, strumming technique, chord accuracy, sight-reading, improvisation skills, and overall musicianship. This allows me to craft a lesson plan that targets both technical precision and expressive performance.
Lessons focus on scales, arpeggios, chord progressions, fingerstyle exercises, rhythm training, and repertoire development. I integrate exercises to improve articulation, timing, dynamics, and improvisational creativity. Students are guided through performance simulations, mental practice, and self-assessment to reinforce technique, expression, and confidence. The learning process is interactive, practical, and designed to make every session meaningful and inspiring.
Advanced learners work on complex pieces, composition, improvisation, ensemble performance, and stage preparation. Continuous feedback is provided on tone, phrasing, timing, and stylistic interpretation. The goal is to help students achieve technical mastery, expressive artistry, and confidence as performers while fostering a lifelong appreciation and love for guitar music.
