About Henry

I'm Henry, I achieved top grades in GCSE and IB literature, and I'm desperate to share my knowledge with the next generation of students. I did this by getting inside the criteria, learning what examiners require of you and how they want you to read, think, and write. Whilst this can sound formulaic, it gives you a clear angle of attack, and a well-lit pathway to success, ticking all the relevant boxes as you go. I can give you a crystal clear roadmap of how to express your ideas, unique to your style, whilst making sure you excel in your course's criteria. As well as this, I can give you the tools to think freely and critically about literature, with emphasis on analysis and evaluation, beyond just understanding, leaving you confident and able to unpick any book, play or poem.

Having studied language and literature for many years at GCSE and IB, I understand that Shakespeare can seem like nonsense, and that Dickens can send you to sleep. I want to help! Whilst English is subjective and dependent on text, there are some core skills that remain constant. I will primarily help you learn how to attack a text, to thoroughly dissect its central themes, to formulate ideas into arguments, and structure these into eloquent, cohesive, and academic essays. These principles will be of huge help regardless of the book you're studying. There's also a fair chance I'll know your book as well, which is even better!
