About Brenda
I taught my own grandchildren guitar for years before eventually teaching more broadly, wanting them, and now many other students, to genuinely connect with heritage through music the way I once did. Seventeen years into teaching now, I've worked with about four hundred sixty students, many of them drawn to genuine cultural connection alongside pure technical guitar skill. My family background gives me a naturally warm, heritage-focused teaching style, treating music as something that carries identity and connection across generations, not just technical skill alone. I connect particularly well with students, especially younger ones, who want genuine connection to family heritage and culture alongside their musical development. My teaching style is warm, patient, and genuinely rooted in family tradition, built on decades of believing music should be shared with love, not rigid formality. I take genuine pride in watching a young student connect genuinely with their own heritage through music, the same connection I once felt as a child myself. Many families who study with me stay for years, appreciating the warm, genuinely personal atmosphere far more than a purely transactional lesson experience elsewhere. My approach treats guitar as a genuine vessel for heritage and family connection, not just technical skill. After seventeen years, I remain deeply passionate about this warm, heritage-focused teaching approach.

Everything I teach was originally shaped teaching my own grandchildren guitar, wanting them to genuinely connect with their heritage the same way music connected me to mine growing up. Lessons often include family songs and traditional pieces passed down through generations, since I believe music carries heritage and identity in ways formal lessons alone rarely manage to convey. I teach patiently and warmly, the exact tone I used with my own grandchildren, believing strongly that heritage should be shared with genuine love rather than rigid formality alone. Technical fundamentals still receive real, thorough attention, but always wrapped in warmth and genuine family feeling rather than cold, purely academic instruction. I encourage students to ask their own family about songs and traditions, connecting our lessons to something genuinely personal and meaningful beyond the guitar itself. Repertoire often includes traditional and folk pieces, songs that carry real cultural weight and history, alongside whatever contemporary music a student personally enjoys too. I share stories often during lessons, about where certain songs come from, about my own family's musical traditions, since context genuinely deepens a student's connection to what they're learning. Every lesson stays warm, personal, and genuinely rooted in the belief that music carries heritage worth genuinely treasuring and passing forward.
