About Shawna

You can feel confident that you’re learning from someone who understands both the academic and real-world sides of nursing. I am a licensed Registered Nurse with several years of bedside nursing experience, including med-surg and cardiac critical care, and I also have previous experience working in pharmacy. My clinical background has given me extensive exposure to pharmacology, patient assessment, prioritization, medication safety, and clinical decision-making. As your tutor, I want you to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and working through difficult concepts without judgment. There is no such thing as a “stupid” question, and I will meet you where you are in your preparation. My goal is to provide a supportive environment where we can identify your weak areas, build on your strengths, and develop the confidence and clinical reasoning skills you need to approach the NCLEX successfully.

About the lesson

I became a nurse because I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives, and throughout my career I’ve learned that one of the biggest challenges for nursing students isn’t simply learning the material—it’s learning how to think like a nurse.

Before becoming an RN, I also worked in pharmacy, which gave me a strong foundation in medications, pharmacology, medication safety, and dosage calculations. Since becoming a nurse, I’ve built on that foundation through my experience in med-surg and cardiac critical care. My clinical experience has taught me how to prioritize patients, recognize changes in condition, connect symptoms to pathophysiology, and make safe clinical decisions under pressure.

I want to tutor NCLEX students because I know how overwhelming nursing school and NCLEX preparation can feel. My goal isn’t to have you memorize endless lists of information. I want to teach you how to think through the question.

Together, we can work on clinical judgment, prioritization, delegation, pharmacology, safety, and test-taking strategies. I’ll help you understand why the correct answer is correct, why the other options are wrong, and what clues in the question should guide your decision.

I especially enjoy helping students who feel like, “I know the material, but I just don’t know how to answer NCLEX questions.” That is something we can work on.

I want my students to leave our sessions with more than just additional knowledge—I want them to feel more confident in their ability to think like a nurse and approach the NCLEX with a plan.

I know how important passing this exam is for starting your nursing career, and I would love the opportunity to help you get there.
