About Geirthrudur
Icelandic-American cellist Geirthrudur Gudmundsdottir has a varied and dynamic career as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher. She has performed internationally at venues like Carnegie Hall and the Southbank Centre and has appeared as a soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Academy Symphony Orchestra among others. She holds degrees from the Royal Academy of Music, Northwestern University and The Juilliard School, where served as a a Teaching Assistant. As a chamber musician, Geirthrudur has performed with renown musicians including members of Quartetto di Cremona and the Emerson Quartet and was a Grand Prize winner in the 2022 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. She has also won prizes at the Anton Rubinstein International Cello Competition, the Hellam Young Artist Competition and the Thaviu String Competition.

Trained at The Juilliard School and the Royal Academy of Music, Geirthrudur is a musician who will help you improve your technique and find new joy in practicing and playing music. A successful soloist, chamber musician, and teacher, she has taught at The Juilliard School in New York and at London Music Masters as well as maintaining a private teaching studio in New York and Cambridge.
She has taught students of all ages, ranging from 9 to 90 years old and is eager to work with anyone who has a basic knowledge of the cello and is willing to work hard to improve and develop their playing. She offers private cello lessons at her home or online, typically 60 minutes in length. Her cello teaching is focused on developing a strong technical foundation and exploring the students individual musicality in order to help them find their own voice as musicians.
