About Esme

My name is Esme Peirce, I am a native English speaker, and I am currently studying a Research Masters in Classics, Medieval and Early Modern studies.

My background and passion is in literature of all kinds!

In my spare time, I love to do arts and crafts or curl up with a good cup of tea while reading a book.

I have worked with children of secondary school age with special educational needs, primarily with autism and ADHD.

I am passionate about education being inclusive and fun for all, and hope to spread my love for English literature and language through online tutoring.

About the lesson

I have experience working with secondary school aged SEN children, as well as 1:1 tutoring for children with special and complex needs. I am familiar with the mainstream school curriculum in the UK and am DBS certified.

My approach is student-centred, with my aim being to learn how best you learn!

Generally a class will last 1 hour.

For prospective students I offer a free session to get to know each other, find what you wish to gain from our lessons, and which learning method you think is best for you.

KS2 English: a focus on reading comprehension both of books/passages as well as exam-style questions, and of writing skills (spelling, answering questions, and creative writing).

GCSE English: lessons are tailored towards which English exam(s) the student is taking.
English literature GCSE lessons are centred around required reading of the exam board.
Expect engaging debates and character analysis to prepare you for the upcoming exams!
These lessons will aim to build comprehension, opinions, and memory of the material.
English language GCSE will be centred more towards 'ad hoc' reading comprehension, method, and creative writing, as seen in the exam.
Will we follow the basic structure of the exam in order to learn what to expect to make those final exams a little less daunting!

English as a foreign language: these lessons are aimed towards intermediate to advanced level students who wish to improve their speaking skills.
My classes are casual and easy-going, with the aim to improve colloquial understanding of English for real-life application. Expect a little grammar, and a lot of chat!
