About Sydney

I have a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from Concordia University in Montreal and a Master of Studies degree in English Literature from the University of Oxford. As an undergraduate student, I studied a range of topics in Modern and Contemporary literature and literary theory, Greek literature, and Art History, but I specialized in nineteenth-century literature during my graduate studies.

Since graduating from Oxford, I have completed a certificate in Professional Editing at Queen’s University and have spent much of my time working as a Library Assistant and a freelance copywriter in Montreal. My love of language and literature have led me back to university and I am currently completing an MA in Translation Studies at Concordia.

My tutoring experience is primarily in English pronunciation lessons, which I am more than happy to offer, but I hope to also share my knowledge and expertise in close reading, academic research, and essay writing!

About the lesson

My first objective as a tutor is to get to know your academic goals so I can tailor our lessons to your needs and ambitions—our first session will be about what you hope to gain from these lessons. My background is in English Literature and Translation Studies, but I would be more than happy to step outside of my discipline!

As a tutor, I have experience in English pronunciation lessons, but I specialize in guiding and supporting cégep and university students at every stage of their literary studies. This includes refining an essay topic, performing and organizing academic research, mastering a citation style, outlining an academic essay, writing a first draft, and revising an essay before submission.

My goal with these lessons is to give you the research tools, writing tips, and time management skills that will be useful throughout your academic and professional career...all the while making the study of language and literature fun, engaging, and thought-provoking!
