About Joolsj
I was born into the vibrant music scene of Liverpool, so pursuing a career in music felt like a natural path for me. While studying at Music College in Liverpool, I reigned as the Hohner British Harmonica Champion for three consecutive years. Later, I moved to London and became the only harmonica player to study at both The Guildhall School of Music and The Royal Academy of Music.
My unique blend of jazz and classical harmonica has earned me recognition from renowned musicians and composers, including jazz pianist Julian Joseph and harmonica legend "Toots" Thielemans. Julian Joseph praised my playing for its soul and melodic logic. I count icons like Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Larry Adler, and "Toots" Thielemans among my influences. My special relationship with "Toots" led to him gifting me a personalized harmonica, an honor he had only previously given to Quincy Jones.
My talent has made me a sought-after session musician for film, television, and radio. Some of my credits include:
- Anthony Hopkins' film "August"
- Disney's "Funny Bones" starring Jerry Lewis
- Carlton Television Productions' "Anna Lee" and "Frontiers"
- BBC's "Tears Before Bedtime," "The Missing Postman," "Wokewell," and "Drovers Gold"
- Featured soloist on the Oscar-winning soundtrack for "The Full Monty"

- TV ads for Stella Artois, where I played Verdi’s "Force of Destiny"
