About Lucy
Hello, I’m Lucy, a tutor with a degree in Psychology and hands-on experience working with children who have Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly autism. My passion for teaching comes from a deep understanding of how every child learns differently and the belief that with the right approach, every student can thrive. I design each lesson to be calm, structured, and paced to suit the individual. I use visual supports, step-by-step guidance, and plenty of positive reinforcement to create a safe, encouraging environment where children feel understood and capable. My approach is patient, flexible, and practical. I prioritise understanding each child's unique way of learning. Lessons are built around real-life situations, helping students develop essential skills like communication, basic maths, reading comprehension, and everyday problem-solving. I use a hands-on, visual, and step-by-step method to make learning feel natural and stress-free, always adapting to what works best for the student. Typical lessons last around 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on attention span and energy levels, with plenty of breaks and positive reinforcement to keep the sessions engaging. I have experience working with neurodiverse children, both in one-on-one tutoring and in small group settings, focusing on practical learning strategies that build confidence and independence. These lessons are ideal for children aged 6 to 16, especially those who benefit from a slower, more individualised pace and a supportive learning environment.
