About Phoebe
I am a mother of 2 children and a professional painter. I grew up painting as many in my family are painters. I have gained experience teaching all ages over the years. I was a primary school teacher immediately after college teaching the curriculum all in Gaelic, and then later I taught in an art school in Delhi. I also was briefly an intern in Washington DC. Now I am more interested in field ecology and farming as subjects for my paintings, as well as being in a choral singing group and playing violin. In my spare time I try to learn new languages. For me art is always about beauty, which is very hard to pin down, as we constantly change our opinions on even the best and greatest of art. Nothing is ever set in stone. And this is why I most enjoy engaging in the teaching of art as there is never just the one correct answer.

Establishing a robust practice of observational drawing early on is key to setting a solid foundation in the visual arts. The language of drawing is individual, like handwriting. Together we will find your particular voice by covering the history of drawing, painting, sculpture and architecture. We will undertake various studies using the lessons of the past, depending on your time frame and immediate aims. I am keen amateur linguist and musician (as well as being a professional painter) so much of the learning could integrate learning in the arts in general. (My other great passions are field ecology, local history and natural history. ) I would help you discover what intrigues you and work to help you produce an excellent body of work with all the qualities you most admire.
