About Kosmo

A lifelong musician, Kosmo's journey as a teacher began over 20 years ago after composition studies with Karlheinz Stockhausen, Christian Wolfe and Frank Denyer, when Kosmo formed the ensemble Cosmos Organon as a performance-research group, dedicated to teaching new compositional methods. Further research into historical music pedagogy led to his research and practice of Plainchant, modal systems of singing, and the educational methods of the past that are based on vocal and keyboard improvisation. He has been invited as a speaker at international conferences on Music Pedagogy from the Italian Institute of Applied Musicology, and the International Medieval Congress.

After many years of research, Kosmo gradually developed an educational syllabus by integrating various historical methods which are entirely practical and creative. He continues to refine this integrated and holistic form of music education, where students learn a spoken language, and develop a creative voice. He is still active as a musical director and composer, performing medieval and contemporary music with 'Circle of Animals'.

About the lesson

Imagine learning music like a first language, and absorbing everything all at once: singing, instrumental skill, ear-training, analysis, improvisation, reading and writing, with stylistic awareness. Whether a lesson is 30mins or 1 hour, my method integrates all these things into one process, tailored to an individual at any level or age; the key is Creativity. In 16 years of teaching musical languages, I've learned that the best way in is through the music you know and love, leading to the new and unknown.
The core of my method is the singing voice (based on ancient and modern methods of 'solfege'), and the main tool is the keyboard - facilitated by ‘thoroughbass’ and ‘partimento’.
