About Meghen
About me
I started an internship with a NYC digital media company, Bookstr, while taking a break from school. I was the social media outreach to bookplaces nationwide via DMs and emails to collect interview questions and pictures to collaborate with editors to create finished articles for Bookstr's site. Immediately I fell in love with anything communications and enrolled at the University of North Texas to earn my bachelor's degree in public relations to learn more in-depth about PR, marketing, project management, etc. I graduated last year and I currently work in marketing for Amazon.
My areas of expertise are:
• Writing (blogs, news articles, press releases, etc)
• Digital media
• Basic computer literacy (Audacity, PR sources like Muckrack, learning platforms for learning outside tutor sessions)
• Public speaking
• Web design (design choices, ideas, written copy, etc.)
• Project management (Notion, Teamwork, Trello, and more.)
• Journalism
In my free time, I usually take my dog Morri on walks around the city, read YA novels, play Genshin Impact or hit the gym.

I am a life-long learner and I've tried tons of methods for learning and teaching! Working as a tutor for Irving ISD for two years solidified my value of guiding students to their own conclusions while acting as a mentor and leader.
It's important in any subject for students to feel a sense of understanding and accomplishment. A lot of times we just need someone to talk to who has had experience to guide us to peak performance and the full potential stored inside us all along, and other times we need someone who knows what logistical tools are needed to get the results we want.
When working with students I like to make a unique plan for you based on your specific needs. Some examples of academic needs I take into consideration when deciding what direction to take are:
- Do you need information? When I began working on audio engineering I was lost on what software to use so I found a mentor who is an author. She worked with audiobook narrators in the past and was able to recommend lessons as well as software she was familiar with.
-Do you need a second set of eyes? In Journalism especially it is important to have a fact checker. You want your word structure, clarity, and hook to make sense and we need a second person to give it a look. Often I would have my little sister who knew absolutely nothing about the topics I liked to write about read my blog posts, press releases, and other materials for class. Sometimes she would point out the most obvious holes in my stories because she read it as a consumer.
-Do you need an opinion? For things like making flyers or media posts in Journalism, it’s helpful to consult someone who can tell you if your design looks off or if you should add something. I had multiple people give their opinions on the look of the websites I’ve created and added/deleted things based on feedback.
-Do you need general life advice? Often tutors become mentors, sources of words of encouragement and people who influence the direction or steps students take in life. Just how my sister reads my articles, I help her write essays, give her my time to research school and career options, and give her life advice to navigate her decisions as she builds a life for herself. I’ve done this with many strangers I’ve met in the past 5 years. Guiding people has always been innate in me.
These are just general questions I ask myself– schedule a session with me whether you need one or twenty and we will figure it out together!
See ya,
Meghen
