About Ally

I have been helping interested individuals learn Japanese since I was in high school. If anyone asked me a question about the Japanese language, I would do my best to provide the best possible answer. My classmates would always come to me for help because they knew that I was constantly studying Japanese, so they knew I would be able to provide the best possible advice and/or answers to their questions. I have always been fascinated with Japanese culture and language, for as long as I could remember. So, when I found out that my high school offered Japanese as a language class, I signed up for it! The more I learned about Japanese culture and the Japanese language, the more I fell in love with it all! Japanese is such a wonderful and interesting language, reflective of its vibrant culture! I also took a Japanese culture class in college, along with all of my required language courses for my minor, and positively loved it! With that said, I would not only be able to teach about the Japanese language, but I would also be able to teach about cultural differences between America and Japan that influence conversations. All in all, I officially started to study Japanese in 2015 and I continue to study Japanese every day!!! I studied Japanese in high school from 2015 to 2017, and in college I studied my language-based courses for my Japanese minor from 2017 to 2020. I have also traveled to Japan twice, once in 2016 and again in 2019. During my 2019 trip to Japan, I was able to have an incredible conversation with a native Japanese speaker for 2 hours while I was on a train ride! We spoke about cultural differences between America and Japan entirely in Japanese! It was such a fascinating conversation! In the end, I would love to help students learn Japanese, and I would be able to practice with them until they reach the goal they would like to achieve!

I have studied Japanese for about 8 years and counting. I started studying Japanese as a sophomore (2015) in high school, and continued to study Japanese until I graduated in 2017. I also studied Japanese in college from 2017 until 2020. I tested into the 200 level Japanese class at UNR as a freshman in college (2017). So, I was able to complete all the required language classes to qualify for my Japanese language minor in 2020. I also regularly write to my Japanese pen-pal friends in Japanese through our letter correspondence! I have been writing to my Japanese pen-pals since 2016 to the present! I'm a native English speaker, so I would be able to provide insight from the lens of an English speaker trying to learn Japanese. I would love to share my passion for Japanese culture and language with my students! I would love to design lesson plans that are tailored for each specific student's learning goals! It is my number one goal to help the student succeed, so with that said I will adjust my tutoring style and lesson plans to be the best fit for the student's learning style. I would have so much fun helping my classmates with their homework, and to help them study for our quizzes and/or exams! Ultimately, I am a patient and understanding individual who wants to help students who are interested in learning Japanese, I want to help them become as passionate about the Japanese language as I am! I plan to help share mnemonic devices, and helpful study habits with my students studying Japanese. I will share my experience with them, and share all the helpful tips that helped me learn Japanese. However, I understand that all students learn differently, so I will come up with new ways to study and learn if my helpful tips don't resonate with a student. I am flexible and creative, so I will come up with the best way to help my student succeed!!!! Thank you for considering me as your Japanese tutor!!!

I strive to give the best possible tutoring experience for a student! My rates include the time that I spend preparing for my tutoring session, for the time spent in the actual tutoring session via Webcam. My prep-time includes: putting together my lesson plan, studying the course material that the student wants to work on, and for preparing all the class materials (if applicable) that I will use during the tutor session (for example: printing out the homework assignment, finding/printing out/reading the textbook chapter that we are planning to go over, etc.). Essentially, the prep-work is done on my own time outside of the actual tutoring session. I can spend up to 2 or more hours preparing. I'm determined to make the tutor session as incredible as possible, so I dedicate as much time as I deem necessary to prepare for a session, thus my prep-times vary depending on the difficulty of the subject material that we are covering. A student is not charged for the "prep-time" until our second lesson.
