About Autumn
Hi, my name is Autumn (she/her). I am a soon-to-be graduate from the University of Manitoba. Come June 2023, I will have an Advanced Bachelor of Arts, with a major in Anthropology and a minor in English. My interests include gender studies, cultural revitalization, repatriation, critical race theory, feminism, and queer theory. During my university career, my three favourite literature courses were
"Inuit Literature," "Jane Austen: Her Life and Works" and "Ghost Literature: From the 18th Century to the Present."

In my lessons we will start with your pre-existing skills, building upon them while developing new strengths. I am a student-led tutor and am interested in pursuing what you want to explore and learn in our time together. I will curate our book list, article selection, and subsequent essay/writing assignments to the interests you share in our first session. I am excited to help you develop your confidence and interest in literary analysis and essay writing, focusing on annotation skills, formal high school and university-level essay writing, and academic reading and analysis. I believe everyone has a personal relationship with the books they read, and I encourage the development of these relationships through short weekly reflection pieces. Each student will be asked to write two formal essays upon completing a book (usually every three weeks depending on book length/grade level). Some books I teach are:
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Kiss of the Fur Queen by Tomson Highway
Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
Mules and Men by Zora Neale Hurston
Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
Dark Matter by Michelle Paver
Split Tooth by Tanya Tagaq
...and many more!
Whether you are a new high schooler looking to boost their English grade next year, or a university student hoping to hone their academic writing over the summer, I look forwards to working with you.
