My primary goal as a teacher is to provide a personalised lesson, catered to each student's needs and wants. A typical 30-minute instrumental lesson with me can consist of:
-tuition on the fundamentals of playing your instrument (clear sound production, strong posture and instrumental techniques) as all good things in music are based upon strong foundations.
-assistance with musical repertoire you are learning or would like to learn. I am comfortable teaching in a wide range of styles and genres (pop, rock, jazz, classical and more!). I often focus on breaking the music down into its fundamental parts (rhythm, harmony, melody, etc.) to both make the music easier to learn (applicable to students of all levels) and to give my students a better understanding of the music from the ground up, which I believe, is the key to forming strong connections to the music.
-learning other skills associated with being a musician, away from the instrument (ear training, basic piano skills, rhythm training) as the instrument is only one section of being a holistic musician.
Further to teaching instrumental lessons, I am also happy to teach lessons in Composition, Music Theory (grade 5 included), and jazz music in particular as this music is my speciality and students of all instruments who would like lessons in improvisation or jazz harmony are very welcome. As well as this I can give tuition to those completing GCSE, A-Level, National 5, Higher or Advanced Higher Music qualifications. Expect a fun, knowledgeable and caring tutor who is keen to cater lessons to the varied needs of their students. I am happy to teach anyone of any age, level or background so please get in touch if you are interested. Lessons are available both online and in-person.

Em is a colleague of mine who I have played and taught alongside. Em is an excellent musician and empathetic teacher, who understands how to shape a lesson based on a student's needs, skill level and age level. I can't recommend Em enough as a saxophone teacher!
