About Surabhi
Hi! My name is Surabhi, and I recently graduated from The Ohio State University with a strong background in science and healthcare. I love working with students and helping them feel more confident in subjects that might seem tough at first. 1. Warm-up (5 mins)
Ask:
• “What’s your favorite book or story?”
• “Why do you think authors write stories?”
This builds engagement and activates prior knowledge.
2. Introduction (5 mins)
Introduce the concept of main idea and supporting details.
Explain:
• Main idea = what the story is mostly about.
• Supporting details = clues that support the main idea.
Show a simple example (e.g., a paragraph about pizza).
3. Guided Reading (15 mins)
Read a short story aloud together (or have the student read aloud).
Pause at key moments to ask:
• “What just happened?”
• “Why do you think the character did that?”
• “What do you think this story is really about?”
4. Graphic Organizer Activity (10 mins)
