About SARAH JAYNE
I studied piano to a performance level at Glasgow University and later at the Sydney Music School, where I deepened my understanding of technique, interpretation, and stagecraft. For more than 15 years, I have been teaching piano to students of all ages and abilities, helping them develop both skill and confidence. My lessons draw on my love of classical, jazz, and modern pop styles, allowing me to tailor each session to the student’s interests while grounding them in solid musicianship. I am passionate about making music enjoyable and accessible, and I aim to inspire every student to reach their full potential at the piano.

My Approach to Tutoring I teach piano with an emphasis on musicality, technique, and enjoyment. My lessons balance structure with creativity so students learn to read music, develop strong technique, and also understand expression, style, and interpretation. I create a supportive environment where students feel confident to experiment and grow. Techniques and Methodology I combine traditional piano methods (scales, sight-reading, and ear training) with modern approaches like improvisation, chordal playing, and understanding music theory in context. I use demonstration, guided practice, and clear feedback. Lessons are customised to the student’s goals—whether classical, pop, jazz, or composition—and I regularly set achievable milestones so progress feels tangible. Lesson Length A typical lesson is 45–60 minutes, which allows enough time to warm up, tackle new material, and review previous work. Shorter or longer sessions are available for young beginners or advanced students preparing for performances or exams. Qualifications & Experience I am an experienced pianist with 30+ years of performance and teaching experience, trained in UNSW, Sydney Conservatoire and the University of Glasgow. I’ve performed as a soloist and accompanist and bring real-world performance insights into my lessons. Who the Lessons Are For I teach students of all ages and levels, from young beginners to advanced players preparing for recitals, competitions or university auditions. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s skill level, learning style and musical interests to keep motivation high.
