About Leo
My name is Leo Grouille—about as French as a last name can get—and I've spoken French my whole life. My dad’s family comes from Auvergne, a remote region of rural France known for its famously pungent cheese. Speaking French brings me back to childhood visits with my grandparents, memories that wouldn’t have been possible without knowing the language. I’m committed to helping my students learn French so they, too, can create meaningful connections and experiences through the language.

I believe learning French should be engaging and practical. My approach focuses on real-world communication, blending structured lessons with interactive activities. I encourage students to speak from day one, making mistakes part of the learning process rather than something to fear. I tailor lessons to each student’s goals, using conversational practice to build fluency naturally, grammar in context rather than dry drills, listening and reading exercises with authentic materials, and interactive activities like role-playing and games. A typical lesson starts with a quick warm-up and review, followed by introducing a new concept—whether vocabulary, grammar, or cultural insights. We then move into practice through speaking, writing, and comprehension exercises before wrapping up with key takeaways and next steps. What sets me apart is my ability to create a relaxed, supportive space where students feel comfortable taking risks. I emphasize cultural immersion, using media and real-life scenarios to make the language come alive. Most importantly, I adapt to each student’s pace and needs, ensuring they stay motivated and excited to learn. I teach beginner to intermediate learners, whether students needing academic support, adults learning for travel or work, or anyone wanting to improve their French. My goal is to make learning enjoyable and meaningful!
