About Merz
Learning works best when you feel supported, challenged, and understood. That is exactly what I aim to provide.
My Commitment to You
I believe every student can master difficult material with the right guidance. My role is to be your partner in that process: to make complex ideas clear, to build your skills step by step, and to help you walk into any class, exam, or presentation with real confidence.
My Teaching Approach
I use the MERZ Method:
Make it Clear - We break down big concepts into simple, logical parts you can actually understand and remember.
Engage Actively - This is not a lecture. You will be solving, writing, and speaking from day one. We learn by doing.
Reinforce with Purpose - We practice strategically so knowledge sticks, not just for the next test, but for the long term.
Zero In On You - Every lesson is tailored to your goals, your learning style, and the specific areas where you need the most support.
You will always know why we are doing something, how it works, and what to do next.
Professionalism You Can Rely On
I take your time and goals seriously. That means:
Prepared, structured sessions with clear objectives every time
Respectful, honest feedback focused on growth, not criticism
Punctuality and reliability — I am here to support your progress consistently
A safe space to ask questions and make mistakes. That is how we learn.
Who I Work With
I specialize in working with High School and University students in:
Filipino Literature, Writing, and Public Speaking including spoken word and class presentations
English Communication and Academic Writing essays, reports, and critical analysis
Study Skills and Confidence Building for recitations, exams, and performances
Whether you need help understanding a text, organizing your ideas, or finding your voice in front of a class, we will work on it together.
My goal is simple: for you to leave each session knowing more than when you started, and believing more in what you can do.
I look forward to working with you.

My Approach as a Tutor: "MERZ"
MERZ is how I remember my 4 pillars as a tutor: Make it clear, Engage, Repeat with purpose, Zero in on you.
1. My Teaching Method and Techniques
I don’t just dump information. I teach so you can actually use it and remember it.
The "Explain Like We're Talking" Method: We break big, scary topics into small, human-sized pieces. No jargon unless we define it together first.
Active Learning > Lectures: 20% me explaining, 80% you doing. We use practice questions, real examples, and "teach it back to me" moments so you’re not just listening.
The MERZ Loop:
Make it clear: What’s the core idea? What’s the 1 thing you must remember?
Engage: We connect it to something you already know. Math to cooking. Literature to TikTok. History to your own life.
Repeat with purpose: We don’t memorize. We practice until it clicks, then test it in different ways.
Zero in on you: We fix your specific mistakes, not generic ones.
Mistakes are data: Every wrong answer tells us exactly what to work on next. No shame, just strategy.
2. A Typical Lesson Plan - 60 minutes
Every session is built around you, but here’s the flow:
Check-in & Warm-up - 5 min
Quick recap from last time. 2-3 questions to wake up the brain and see what stuck.
Core Concept - 15 min
I explain 1 main idea only. With visuals, analogies, and real-world examples. We stop anytime you have a question.
Guided Practice - 20 min
We solve problems together. I’ll model 1, we do 2 together, then you try 1 with me coaching. This is where we catch misconceptions.
Independent Practice - 15 min
You do it solo. This builds confidence. I’m here to nudge, not answer for you.
Wrap-up & Plan - 5 min
What did we learn? What’s 1 thing to practice before next time? We set a tiny, doable goal.
For spoken word, essays, or presentations, we swap "practice problems" for drafts, feedback, and rehearsal.
3. What Sets Me Apart
Personalized, not one-size-fits-all: Whether you’re a STEM student who hates writing or an arts student who freezes in math, we start where YOU are.
Depth + Clarity: I care about you understanding the "why" behind the "how". That’s what helps in exams and in real life.
Voice and Confidence: Especially for subjects like Filipino, Literature, or Presentations. My goal is for you to not just get a good grade, but to actually believe in what you’re saying — like in that spoken word piece we just made.
MERZ Focus: We track progress. You’ll know exactly what you’re better at after each session.
4. Who the Lessons Are For
I work best with students who want to understand, not just copy.
Level: High School to College / University
Subjects: Filipino Literature & Writing, English Communication & Essay Writing, Study Skills, Public Speaking / Spoken Word, General Humanities and Social Sciences
Class types: 1-on-1 tutoring, small group review, performance coaching for presentations
Specificities:
Students preparing for recitations, speeches, or class performances
Learners who need help organizing ideas and writing with depth
Anyone who wants to connect academic topics to values like Pagpapasiya, Pananagutan, Pagkilos, at Pakikipagkapwa
If you learn better by talking, doing, and getting feedback instead of just reading slides — we’ll get along great.
