About Jonathan
Hi, I'm Jon. I'm a GEM student at Oxford, having had a career in the public sector before leaving to study something new. I'm DBS checked, and have a first class degree in electronic engineering (I'm also an MIET and an IEng candidate), formal qualifications in leadership and management, as well as some other qualifications and awards picked up along the way. I was in the 94th percentile for the UCAT, and received 4/4 interviews for graduate entry medicine. I've taught informally on and off at various levels for the past 15 years or so, as well as both teaching and planning lessons for others as a part of some roles at work. I've always enjoyed it and one of the greatest pleasures of my roles over the years has been seeing the development of others and helping to bring them along and build their skills.

The lessons are as flexible as you want them to be, with times and days to suit you, and adjustable in length. I can offer continual, drip-fed sessions, or more intense longer sessions – for example when it comes to interview season and you want to really nail down your preparation. My preferred style is via Zoom or Teams, however in-person may be possible too, dependent on location.
As a taster of things I offer:
**UCAT MOT** I suggest an hour and a half as an initial session to work out where you are. I will provide detailed feedback afterwards and highlight where you are doing well and where you need to improve. I’ll particularly highlight “high-yield” areas, that will give you the greatest reward for your efforts to improve.
**UCAT tutoring** We’ll focus on each area individually, looking at key techniques to improve your speed and confidence in answering. Depending on your strengths and weaknesses, we’ll look at where is best to focus tactically, before looking for more holistic gains. We’ll particularly pay attention to the SJT element, as a poor mark in this element can quash aspirations entirely.
**Personal Statements** The other half of what an admissions team sees before inviting you to interview, this needs to be outstanding. I can help with planning – discussing your motivators, what you bring to the party, what your experience is and arguably most importantly, what you took from those experiences and will bring to studying medicine. Whether you need help planning and write something based on that session, or if you already have something written, I’ll review it and tell you what needs to go, what needs highlighting more, and what’s already a fantastic reflection of you. I’ll help you cut it down whilst keeping the important stuff, and make sure you use every bit of space to its maximum potential.
**Interviews** My favourite part if I'm honest. We’ll cover everything that you might be asked, and then some. We’ll talk about science, the NHS, current affairs and politics, your motivation, what the future looks like (for you when successful and more generally), and more. I’ll help with mock interviews – Oxbridge style, panel and MMI. I’ll give feedback and critique, and help you refine your answers to make sure you maximise your time and are confident when you get asked questions.
The key word for me as a tutor is flexibility. Each tutee is different and as an individual, you have your own needs – if I was set in my ways then I’d fail to give you the best chance. I’m here to maximise your chances – some of that will be a holistic approach, and some of that will be targeted, tactical focus on your strengths or weaknesses. I’m here to help you however I can. If you want to maximise your chances of success, contact me today to book a session!
