About Lawrence
My educational experiences are: teacher at a high school, and, to do this, I needed a Degree (Economics) and University Education Diploma (University of Natal UN). I then lectured at a Technikon, added an Honours degree in Economics (UN), then lectured and became an Academic Development Practitioner, at universities, Zululand (UNIZUL), UNISA, UKZN and a university of technology (DUT), and, to do these, needed a Diploma in Tertiary Education (UNISA) and a Masters Education (Higher Education) degree (UKZN).

Also see CV below for an explanation of the way I approach tutorials. My tutorials are focused on language use. Every subject has its own language and from my experiences as a school teacher, university lecturer, teacher trainer, educational developer, many students need support with, reading, writing, listening and speaking the language of the Subject. This is known as academic literacy. For example, Economics - you need to become literate in the subject Economics in order to know, understand, describe, explain and communicate Economics, and thereby, pass the Examinations! That is you need to learn how to think, read, write, listen, talk - just like an Economist, and, become a member of the tribe, the club! So it is with all the subjects you are studying. Each subject has its own language. However the added difficulty students may have, is that they are learning using English, which is not their first language or mother-tongue. English is their additional or second language.
