About Derek
I’m a senior and lead 3D character animator with 25+ years of experience in film, TV, games, and VFX.
I currently teach character animation at Gnomon and advanced 3D animation at California State University, Long Beach.
I’ve worked on projects including Doom Patrol, Barnyard, Speed Racer, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and God of War III.
My strength is spotting what isn’t working in an animation and helping you figure out what to fix first.
If your shot feels stiff, weightless, unclear, or just “off,” I can help you see why.

We’ll watch your work together and focus on the changes that will make the biggest difference.
I can help with timing, weight, body mechanics, posing, performance, clarity, and polish.
You’ll leave knowing what is hurting the animation, what to fix first, and how to make it stronger.
You can work in Maya, Blender, or any other animation software. I’m reviewing your animation from a video or playblast, not working inside your scene file.
These sessions are best for animation students, junior animators, and working artists who want an experienced second set of eyes on their work.
