About Helen

What kind of experience do you have? I am a German native speaker and have plenty of language learning experience to draw from as well as the PTLLS qualification. I have been giving German tuition since 2014. Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate? I have a Basic Disclosure Where and with whom did you train? The WEA – Workers' Educational Association South Wales.

About the lesson

I am a friendly German language tutor in Cardiff offering tuition via Skype for adult and face-to-face tuition to pupils working towards their GCSE and A-Level exams. Tell me about your qualifications. I have an MA in English, Art History and Philosophy and the PTLLS teaching certificate. How much do you charge? £35 per lesson - if you recommend me you get 50% off your next lesson. I don't offer free lessons. Where do you teach? From my home in Cardiff. I also teach adults via Skype. When are you available? After school hours when pupils might need tuition or during the day for adults. Currently on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays. Which ages and levels do you teach? I teach adults with no, little or a lot of experience via Skype and face-to-face. Especially students who want to learn German for professional reasons. I also teach pupils who are working towards their GCSE and A-Level exams. Which qualifications do you prepare your students for? GCSEs and A-Levels. Higher Education. Describe your arrangements for online tutoring. I teach adults via Skype and email support. Before the start of the first lesson I send out a little questionnaire to find out about the language experience the student has. Payment by BACS before to each lesson or in case of students I am seeing face-to-face in cash. Do you have a personal message for students? Learning a foreign language should be fun and useful. And the easiest way to learn is to combine it with something that interests you. So when you book a lesson with me I want to know about your personal interests so I can incorporate these into our lessons. Perfect! Helen tutored my children for 1 year in beginner German for my 11-year old and intermediate German for my 13-year old. Helen was flexible with lesson schedules and well prepared for lessons. For the beginner German lessons, Helen prepared engaging content outside the standard text book, such as Sesamstrasse clips and others.

I highly recommend Helen as an experienced and most personable tutor.

I was taught by Helen for a few months before my A level exams and found her teaching really helpful, especially with my grammar. It was also really useful to be able to speak with a native German speaker, and I think this improved my speaking skills and vocab a lot. In the end I got an A* in my A level, which Helen's teaching definitely contributed to. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to improve their German!
