About Joseph

I am a high-achieving A-level student currently studying Maths, Physics, Art and Advanced Skills, having recently achieved A*s and Distinctions at GCSE Maths, Numeracy, Physics and Additional Maths and A's (the maximum top grade) at AS-Level Maths and Physics, under the WJEC exam board. Because I have sat these exams myself not long ago, I have a clear and up-to-date understanding of how GCSE and AS-Level Physics exams are assessed and what examiners are really looking for.

I decided to offer tutoring not only as a source of income, but because I genuinely enjoy helping students gain confidence in subjects they often find stressful or frustrating. I am particularly good at explaining ideas in a clear, logical way and introducing alternative methods that make difficult topics feel more manageable. My lessons focus on exam technique, common mistakes, and using past-paper questions to turn understanding into marks, these are approaches I have refined through tutoring not just for financial gain but as a volunteer tutor in school.

I currently tutor GCSE students online and have received positive feedback for my structured, supportive approach. I set clear expectations and encourage regular independent practice between sessions, as this is essential for real progress and improved exam performance.

Alongside my academic work, I am applying to study Architecture at university and have recently won the Cambridge's prestigious Fitzwilliam College Architectural Design Competition 2025.

Outside of academics, I have a wide range of interests including tennis and musical theatre, which helps me relate well to students and keep lessons engaging and approachable. I aim to create a calm, encouraging learning environment where students feel confident asking questions and developing their skills.

My lessons are made from a structured format which I have learnt from my teachers and refined through my own practice. The focus will be for GCSE or AS-Level students however any age below is welcome and I will introduce them to the basic concepts needed in preparation for GCSE or AS-Level.

- The lessons take a focused 1-2 hours with a 5 minute recap at the end.
- I will first see what the student does know and focus on what the student does not know so that they have a wider knowledge of the subject for the exam.
- I will teach using WJEC past paper questions to ensure the student learns the relevant information they need in the actual exam.
- I will teach the most efficient and quickest methods to reach the final answer so that in the exam the student will not waste any time dwelling on a question.
- I will also teach exam technique so that the student can reach their full potential.
- Additionally I will teach how to reduce stress during exam season from many techniques I have used personally to help me achieve the best grades.
- The student will need paper, a pen, pencil, highlighter, ruler, eraser, compass and most importantly a CASIO calculator as these are the most efficient calculators for GCSE.
- I will ensure that through my style of teaching the student will in fact enjoy the subject and enjoy the satisfaction of getting the correct answer.
