About Richard
I have been teaching programming to friends, and friends of friends that have taken computer science or similar degrees for many years. I have and still am doing this in my free time as programming is a hobby to me as well as a part time job.
This has usually been to help with someone understand, line by line, the solution to a programming problem, and to break down programming concepts. Or help classmates I had during the time I studied computer science a level, with programming or computer science questions.
However, with university expenses, I've decided to use this skill of teaching programming (& computer science concepts) as a finical aid. As I find it fun to do and a great experience as it lets me help someone understand concepts which is rewarding in of itself.
Related Qualifications & Experience:

- Multiple years of small scale programming odd jobs
- Experience in teaching the subject (to fellow students) over the two years of the course
- Experience in teaching programming from scratch

My teaching method is to find out what part of the topic they are struggling with understanding and helping them by rephrasing & reteaching the related concepts. From that foundation I build all the knowledge they'll require for their exam, based on the specification.
If the student wants to practice their exam skills, I will then ask questions related to that topic in order to reaffirm the knowledge is retained and that they can apply it correctly, and if not I will explain where the mistakes where made and how to fix them!
For teaching programming & helping with programming related homework/coursework, I go through what the problem is asking the student to do, and the steps to get from that to the final working code. As well as teaching them the fundamental concepts for programming, that they also need to know for the exam.
