About William

I am a London based Saxophone teacher and performer. I hold a masters degree from the University of Michigan, where I received a two-year fellowship to study music, as well as teach jazz improvisation and conduct ensembles.

I really value the time I got to spend in the Detroit area, where I learnt much from a music community that has historically put America on the global cultural map through its development of jazz, gospel, hip-hop, and Motown music.

The valuable experiences and connections to people I have made through musical expression is a privilege I wish for others, and teaching is one of my primary platforms to do this.

With teaching I have successfully prepared people for exams, performances, auditions, and have gotten many from never having touched an instrument before to playing songs and expressing new parts of themselves in a short matter of time.

About the lesson

From beginners to advanced pupils, Will teaches the saxophone with an approachable, empathetic and fun demeanor, and is sensitive of the many learning styles that manifest in a process as delicate as learning an instrument.

Will is also experienced in graded ABRSM/Trinity music examinations and can prepare students accordingly, having himself achieved diplomas in both classical cello and jazz saxophone.

Will teaches from his home studio in Borough during the weekdays, and has a piano and a double bass to accompany students in rehearsal.

A typical lesson plan for the saxophone could cover: breathing and sound development, instrumental dexterity, music reading skills, repertoire.

A typical lesson outline for jazz improvisation should a student be interested: rhythm, harmony, playing in all keys, performance and feedback

Various of the above elements subject to reduction, reorganization, addition, subtraction, emphasis; all depending on what moves you forward!

3 times a year, Will organizes concerts for his saxophone and improvisation students at his home studio, where friends and family and other students can watch and support and celebrate their progress.
