About Tom

Getting into medicine isn’t just about perfect scores — I know that because mine weren’t.

I’m Tom, a medical student at Griffith University, and it took me multiple application cycles to get here. Along the way, I realised something important: interviews like CASPer and the MMI are often what truly separate applicants.

My GPA and GAMSAT were solid but not exceptional, and early on I struggled with CASPer, initially receiving a 1st quartile result before eventually achieving 4th quartile. I also didn’t pass my first University of Melbourne interview.

At the time, it felt like I was doing everything “right” academically while still falling short.

What ultimately changed wasn’t my grades — they stayed largely the same. What changed was how I approached communication, reflection, and the interview process itself.

Instead of trying to memorise answers or say what I thought sounded “right”, I learned how to think through scenarios properly, structure my responses, and communicate in a way that felt clear and genuine. That shift is what ultimately helped me succeed in interviews and secure a CSP place at Griffith.

About the lesson

CASPer and the MMI aren’t about being the smartest person in the room — they’re about how you think, and how clearly you can communicate that under pressure.

In our sessions, we don’t just go through practice questions — we break them down properly. We look at how you approach scenarios, what you prioritise, and how to refine your responses so they become clear, balanced, and authentic.

I’ll help you develop a simple, structured way to approach difficult questions, so you’re not relying on memorised answers, but actually understanding what the scenario is asking, what assessors are trying to learn about you, and how to respond thoughtfully in the moment.

I design my sessions to be supportive but carefully honest. Sometimes that process can feel uncomfortable at first — especially when practising communication under pressure — but that’s often where the biggest improvements happen.

Whether you’re feeling unsure where you stand, struggling to sound natural, or simply wanting more confidence going into CASPer and interviews, I understand how difficult and uncertain the process can feel because I’ve been through it myself. My goal is to help you approach it with more clarity, confidence, and authenticity.
