About Gavin
Originally from Southampton and now living in Hastings, I am a professional cellist and viola da gamba player who studied at the University of Oxford (BA) and the Royal Academy Music (MA). As well as playing for orchestras such as the English Concert and the Academy of Ancient Music, I really enjoy teaching and am keen to take on students either here at home or online via Skype / Zoom.

Flexibility is the key, and I vary my teaching style a lot depending on whether I'm teaching a young prodigy on the rise or an amateur who simply wants to enjoy making music with their friends. One constant, however, is an emphasis on physical awareness and good technical habits, along with a focus on stylistic awareness and the conviction that practice should never be a chore!
